This cobblestone house at 2900 South Estes Street in Lakewood, Colorado, (West Yale Avenue and South Estes Street) was built between 1859 and 1864, probably by someone original from the New York area. It was built of cobblestones gathered from Bear Creek with a few and roughly-dressed sandstones quarried from nearby. Its walls are 18 inches thick. It was renovated in 1976 and is used for social events, and owned by the City of Lakewood. It is on the National Register of Historic Places for Jefferson County, Colorado. Richard Palmer blog.
The National Register application in 1975 noted that the land was owned by William Hodgson, and later granted to his brother Joseph for this participation in the Navajo Indian War. The Hodgeson brothers were the area's earliest settlers and first recorded landholders. Source: Comments section, page 19 of the National Register of Historic Places Registration Form.
